About Us

Art & Hobby is the realization of a dream in 1970 of the first generation of the owners, Stanislas and Pierrette Couture. The store started on rue St-Jacques in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. With the expansion in 2002, Art & Hobby moved into a room 6 times larger still on rue St-Jacques.

The second generation, Diane and Pierre Couture, already experienced with this business, took over from their parents in 2008. With the help of their employees, they ran day camps, discovery workshops, outdoor workshops in schools and associations, courses and participation in several artistic events. The arrival of online commerce and competition in 2015 brought the store focus into focus so that it could continue to serve the public. The resulting choice was to aim for the supervision service and the courses in a room always on St-Jacques more suitable for their needs. Our courses remain diverse and our staff is ready to receive and serve you with a creative spirit that has always animated Art & Hobby.

As a family business, at Art & Hobby we take the time to discuss and prioritize the personal development of our clients through the arts. Also, our family spirit guides the relationships that Art & Hobby maintains with our customers, our staff, our suppliers, our community and our environment.

50th Anniversary of Art & Hobby!

Opened in 1970, we have always been on Saint-Jacques street..

We are currently occupying our 3rd location, and over the years we have changed our direction slightly to refocus our activities on artistic material, furniture restoration (milk painting), sculpture and pyrography tools, restoration of old frames and naturally the framing of all artistic works, photos, and documents such as diplomas and heirlooms, etc…

All the framing that you entrust to us is done in our brand new framing workshop and we also perform restorations on your frames that need a little extra TLC and attention.

We continue to offer you introductory and professional courses, thanks to our various artist teachers, whether for acrylic or oil painting, sculpture, stained glass painting, etc… (Our courses will resume after the pandemic.)

We are proud to offer you products made locally in Quebec. Now, more than ever its vital to support local initiatives, businesses and products with proven track records and that withstand the test of time. All of our merchandise has been tested for quality and we are pleased to present them to all of our clients.

50 years should be celebrated, however; in these challenging times of pandemic we are all forced to change our plans, so we will be creative with this one and you can stay tuned by following us on our Facebook page for activities and mini online courses. In the meantime, we invite you to come in to the shop to see how we can help you achieve your artistic goals and spark your creativity. We regularly offer you 50th specials as part of your local Quebec art store.

We are working hard to bring you our new website where you can shop online.
